What is your blog called?
When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging earlier this year as a part of the new website I have launched which showcases design-led homeware, furniture and illustration, available directly from UK makers. I have always loved design, am an avid blog and magazine reader and really enjoy the blogging side of the business as it’s the part that acts as the purest creative outlet and also the bit that let’s me connect the most with other people!
Was there a particular blog that inspired you to start?
I’ve always admired confessions of a design geek as I love Katie Treggiden’s eye and ability to get under the surface of what makes great design!
How do you curate your content?
I’m led partially by the choices I make when I select makers for the site, which are all-hand picked by me, so I’m really passionate about their work and want to write about what they do; I am running a series of maker stories which are behind-the-scenes interviews with the makers and a look at their workspaces (I’m very nosy so love this aspect of it!). I also love interior design and writing about trends and style ideas so I’m trying to do regular style inspiration features as well.
Where do you find inspiration?
Firstly from the makers on our site and other talented craftspeople and designers out there on the design front-line, then from others working within design and interiors; other bloggers, instagramers and creators of visual and written content. I love a beautiful picture or piece of design and am definitely inspired by the purely aesthetic, but I always come back to the person behind it as well; I’m really fascinated by the creative impulse and by what inspires others!
How do you stay motivated?
Good question! I think it varies from day to day. Some days I am full of enthusiasm and power through from early morning to late at night, at other times it can be difficult to get started but, as the business takes off, I’m trying to get into more of a routine with the blog and I think that will help me to stay focused!
Which blogs do you read regularly?
Confessions of a design geek, Curate and Display, Mad about the House, The-Edited, Fabric of my Life, Interior Style Hunter and loads more! I dip in and out of lots of different blogs all of the time!
How long does it take you to write a blog post?
Usually between 2-3 hours from initial ideas to getting it all onto the blog.
How do you promote your posts?
Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are the mainstays. I also find ‘linkys’- linking your post on a hosts blog which is linked from your own – work well!
How did you grow your social media following?
Well it’s an ongoing task! I find the ‘best’ way is to be really sociable! Share what others are doing, say hello and get involved – none of which are hard work when you share and get involved with things you genuinely love.
Which is your favourite social media platform?
I’ve found Twitter the ‘easiest’ to get going on and also the best for meeting people. I love Instagram but need to up my own game to grow my following! I find Facebook really tough and don’t prioritise it at the moment – any tips and/or follows would be much appreciated! 😉
