Once upon a time there was a blogger who had a lot to say and wanted to reach more people. So this blogger decided to speak to their friends and ask if they could share some of the ideas to their audience. In return they would like a credit so that people knew about this guest blogger.
But let’s not pretend that this ends happily ever after because ABC Widgets soon realised that this route allowed them to get a link back to their website which improved their position in the search engine results page (SERP).
Skip forward a few years and we find that the quality of these blog posts has significantly dropped and ABC Widgets is guest blogging wherever they possibly can. Now when you say Guest blog to a blogger they immediately think of ABC Widgets and not Blogger.
Come with me, if you will, on a journey where this doesn’t exist and guest blogging is about reaching new audiences with a bi-product of getting a link back to your website. In fact, what I’m doing right now is guest blogging on someone else’s blog, about something I wouldn’t post on my blog but I am knowledgeable about. Ain’t nothing wrong with that is there?
Matt Cutts, Head of Spam at Google posted about guest blogging for links. Take a look and you’ll see what he thinks to this idea.
Guest blogging is a nice way to introduce fresh content to your blog, from people you respect and get links back to each others sites. So, help a blogger out and swap guest posts on each others blogs to bring benefit and fresh content to both sites.
Think about a few friendly bloggers who you could approach to run a few guest blogging spots with, explain to them the reason for it and give each others blogs an SEO boost.
